Scenic drive through Smugglers’ Notch – Follow Mountain Road (Route 108)

Day 1: Iconic Views 

Red cable cars move through vibrant autumn foliage.

Stowe Mountain Resort 

Take in some of the best views around at Vermont’s Tallest Peak, Mount Mansfield. Drive to the top via the historic Auto Toll Road or take a ride on the classic Gondola SkyRide.  

Scenic Drive Through Smugglers’ Notch 

This narrow, winding pass is one of Vermont’s most scenic fall drives, with towering cliffs and golden canopies making every turn unforgettable. 

Percy Farm Corn Maze 

Celebrate fall with a classic New England corn maze, where getting lost among the tall stalks only adds to the fun. Located right along the Stowe Recreation Path, the Percy Farm Corn Maze is a local, fall favorite.  

Spear Barn 

Nothing looks quite as spectacular amongst fall foliage compared to a classic, red Vermont barn. Spear Barn is located off Luce Hill Road and is a showstopper during fall foliage season. 

Von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort 

With some of the best views in town, the von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort is a great place to visit, especially during the fall. Meet their Scottish Highland Cattle on a tour of the farm  or taste their Vermont-made, Austrian-style Lager at the von Trapp Brewery and Bierhall.  

Day 2: Take the Scenic Route

Moss Glen Falls 

Explore the tallest waterfall in Vermont framed by brilliant fall colors. Moss Glen Falls is located just north of town off of Randolph Road and the falls are a short, easy walk from the trailhead.  

Scenic Drive, Elmore Mountain and Randolph Road 

Continue past Moss Glen Falls and enjoy a stunningly scenic drive through the Vermont countryside. This drive features a magnificent view west, across to Mount Mansfield and the Sterling Range.  

Red Covered Bridge 

While you’re on that side of town, you can easily get to Red Covered Bridge and the drive through the Sterling Valley is equally as scenic during the fall. The bridge is located off of Sterling Valley Road. 

Stowe Recreation Path 

After spending some time in the car, get out and stretch your legs in the historic Stowe village. Venture behind the iconic Stowe Community Church and explore the start of the Stowe Recreation Path. 

Sunset Rock Scenic Overlook 

Just a short walk from Main Street is a short, easy hike up to Sunset Rock, featuring a scenic overlook of the downtown and a longer route with views of Mount Mansfield.  

Day 3: Your Fall Classics

Emily’s Bridge 

Also known as Gold Brook Covered Bridge, this is the most well-known covered bridge in our area known for its spooky history and lore.  

Grandview Barn 

Another spectacular red barn, Grandview Barn is one of the most popular photo spots during the fall as it includes a stunning backdrop of the Worcester Range.  

Cold Hollow Cider Mill 

A true Vermont staple, Cold Hollow Cider Mill is the classic taste of fall with fresh apple cider and warm, fresh cider donuts. Stop by for a sweet treat after exploring the Stowe Hollow area.  

Ben & Jerry’s Factory 

A trip to Vermont isn’t complete without a cone from Ben & Jerry’s. Located just up the road from Cold Hollow you can checkt both of these popular spots off your list.  

Waterbury Reservoir 

Take in the fall foliage from out on the water at the Waterbury Reservoir. Onsite rentals are available for those looking to venture out. No reservations are accepted for on-site rentals.
