MEMBERSHIP MANAGER

Stowe Area Association (SAA) is the official Destination Marketing Organization for the mountain resort community of Stowe, Vermont. The association’s mission is to market and sell Stowe. This position is expected to perform at a professional level, provide excellent customer service to visitors and members, and act as a liaison for the Stowe Area Association. The position reports to the Executive Director.

The Membership Manager is responsible for new member recruitment, member engagement, and member retention through targeted and strategic member communications and member events. Additionally, the Membership Manager is the SAA point person for the various partnerships and collaborations while assessing the relationships that tie in with SAA’s goals and objectives.

This position is an excellent opportunity to grow professionally and make connections working on a variety of projects throughout the annual business cycle. 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

New Member Recruitment

  • Develop and implement segmented, highly customized new membership recruitment strategies and tactics.  
  • Manage the membership program budget and expenses.
  • Create and distribute materials to support membership recruitment and retention efforts, including email newsletters.
  • Work with the Marketing Manager on communications strategies to highlight member stories and thought leadership.

Marketing & Communications:

  • Lead comprehensive CRM strategies for retention & member service communications.
  • Lead creation of member-focused content for the purpose of membership growth and retention.
  • Lead the implementation of a CRM system and comprehensive member retention communications in partnership with the Marketing Manager and Sales Manager.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Manager to coordinate special promotions and marketing campaigns to enhance the Stowe, Vermont brand.
  • Supports the production and distribution of annual collateral and coordinate updates to GoStowe.com in conjunction with the Marketing Manager. 

Member Services and Support

  • Engage with existing members to encourage participation in SAA events, programs, and services, connecting them with internal and external resources.
  • Address member concerns and issues, providing excellent customer service.
  • Coordinate, implement, and evaluate membership benefits and services, including conducting an annual survey and hosting focus groups to gather feedback and suggestions for improvement.
  • Manage membership database, membership assessment and renewal process in coordination with the SAA Finance Manager.
  • Lead strategies and sales effort to build Pay-to-Play program participation.
  • Oversee member engagement on GoStowe.com through the Member Portal, including listings, events, and special promotions.
  • Manage the Stowe Perks programs.

Reporting and Analytics

  • Track and report on membership KPIs including acquisition, retention, revenue, Pay-to-Play program, etc.
  • Report on the impact of marketing initiatives for members.
  • Develop and distribute annual membership program reports.
  • Prepare outlines and presentations for membership meetings and support educational programming efforts.

Partnerships:

  • Work with the Executive Director to develop and coordinate strategic partnerships that enhance organizational capacity and impact growth areas.
  • Solicit partnerships that bring value to members through direct revenue, sponsorships, agreements, or events.
  • Stay informed on market trends, sharing relevant information with members and staff, and applying insights to programs and policies.

Meetings and Events:

  • Plan, execute, and support marketing efforts for membership-related events, including meetings, mixers, networking events, and educational workshops.
  • Represent the organization at events to enhance its profile.
  • Lead or facilitate member-focused discussions during meetings to ensure alignment with member needs and organizational goals.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings, monthly mixers, seasonal membership meetings, and the Annual Meeting.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Support the Executive Director with Board of Trustees and Task Force meeting logistics and initiatives.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications and Education

  • 3-5 years of experience in membership management, business administration, marketing, communications, public relations, hospitality management, customer service, sales, or a related field.
  • Experience within a nonprofit, association, or membership-based organization is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in relationship management and engagement, demonstrating the ability to communicate effectively and build rapport.
  • Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) applications a plus.
  • Proficiency in digital marketing techniques, including email marketing and social media, is often required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel), social media in a business setting, analytics tools, website content management (i.e. WordPress), and photography. Experience with design programs such as Adobe InDesign and Canva is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to create a positive impression of Go Stowe while responding to members’ needs daily.

Other Requirements

  • Normal business hours, with occasional early morning, evening, and weekend hours.

Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000, commensurate with experience

Benefits: Health care contribution up to $458.33/month ($5,500/year), 5% of all new membership dues signed by you, 5% of all sponsorship dollars signed by you, 5% of all pay-to-play dollars signed by you, 401k plan with company-matching, 22 days of paid time off; and reimbursements for qualified expenses. There are other perks, including excursions with various activities and attractions, and other immersion experiences to learn about area businesses.
