Fall Foliage

Fall's color capital, Stowe is regarded as one of the top destinations for fall foliage, where vibrant autumn colors paint the landscape in stunning hues of red, orange, and gold. When to Visit

Foliage in Stowe typically begins to turn in early September and last through mid-to-late October, with peak foliage generally visible the last week of September and the first week of October. Peak foliage is often difficult to determine as it is a narrow window and many factors, including the weather, impact the timing and duration of the foliage season as well as the quality of colors. No matter what stage of the foliage transformation you choose to visit, you'll be sure to see nature's chorus of color in full effect.

Where to View Foliage

While stunning fall foliage can be found around every corner, colors peak at different times in different places throughout Stowe’s diverse terrain. Higher elevations, including Mt. Mansfield and Smugglers’ Notch, often peak sooner than the historic village. Depending on where the leaves are in the process, choose Stowe as your home base and venture North or South to discover new views of fall foliage.
