Stowe, Vermont, is a town rich with history and charm, nestled in the heart of the Green Mountains. While it's widely known for its stunning landscapes and vibrant community, Stowe’s past is filled with many milestone moments that have shaped it into the beloved destination it is today. The Stowe Historical Society is dedicated to preserving and recording the past for the present and the future. 1791: Vermont becomes the 14th state
1794: First Settlement in Stowe
1817: First school established in what became Stowe Village
1838: "E" Added to "Stow"
1848: Most of the Town of Mansfield added to Stowe
1863: Stowe Community Church Built
1894: Carriage Road Through Smugglers' Notch Completed
1940: First Single Chair Lift Constructed at Mount Mansfield
