Train Day in Waterbury
It’s full steam ahead for TRAIN DAY, Waterbury’s celebration of all things rail! On Saturday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Discover Waterbury (formerly Revitalizing Waterbury), the Waterbury Historical Society, and the Champlain Valley Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society (CVC-NRHS) are teaming up to host a festive, family-friendly event at the historic Waterbury Train Station.
This year’s event celebrates Waterbury’s iconic 1875 train station—an Italianate Victorian gem that remains a proud symbol of Waterbury’s rich railroad heritage. And, new this year is an all-ages trackless train ride around Waterbury’s downtown.
During this fun community event, locals and visitors alike can enjoy:
- Working model train
- Railroad artifacts and exhibits
- Live presentations and storytelling exploring Waterbury’s rail heritage
- Hands-on kids’ activities
- Train rides on the “Waterbury Special” - trackless train through the historic downtown
The Waterbury Historical Society and CVC-NRHS members will be on hand to share tales and answer questions about trains, station lore, and local history. The celebration will take place both inside the station and outdoors, offering plenty of opportunity to explore Waterbury’s railroad history.
Visitors can also enjoy coffee, baked goods, and other refreshments from Black Cap Coffee, conveniently located inside the station.
Join us at the Station on Saturday, June 27 and discover the charm, history, and excitement of Waterbury’s railroad legacy. All aboard!
