From Field to Village: Paintings by John Clarke Olson
The Bryan Fine Art Gallery is thrilled welcome “From Field to Village,” a collection of paintings by John Clarke Olsen in a solo exhibition on display February 4 – March 29, 2026 located at 64 South Main Street in downtown Stowe.
A Connecticut native and a military veteran, John paints quintessential Vermont – old churches, farmhouses, side streets, barns and bridges. He began painting in 1975, and acknowledges that through the years, the scenery in Vermont has changed drastically. His work aims to capture an older, nostalgic Vermont, where the pace was slower, and the landscape less developed.
By 2008, John had traveled to paint scenes from approximately 225 Vermont Towns. In 2015, he accomplished his goal of painting all 251 Towns in the state!
John works in oil, and is largely self-taught, although he has studied with Stan Mark Wright from Stowe Vermont, David A. Dunlop at Southern Vermont Art Center and T. M. Nicholas, the plein air painter from Gloucester, MA. John’s work is realistic, detailed and incredibly charming.
John’s work has been shown throughout New England and Maine, and many of his pieces are in private collections throughout the United States.
