Author Event at Bear Pond Books with Gail MacDonald
oin Bear Pond Books in Stowe, Vermont on Saturday, 10/31 from 11am to 1pm for an author meet & greet book signing event! We are excited to welcome Gail MacDonald to promote her book, "Abolitionists of the Northeast, Black Leaders in the Antislavery Movement".
About the Book:
"Abolitionists of the Northeast, Black Leaders in the Antislavery Movement" profiles those whose voices we seldom hear and whose work is too often overlooked. The book focuses on 18th and 19th century Black leaders in the fight for abolition and equal rights and opportunities for people of color. These people are from all six New England states, as well as New York. Black leaders in the antebellum period stood up and spoke out forcefully and courageously, sometimes putting their very lives at risk to advocate for their causes.
The book details the complexities of slavery, abolition and racism, which was common in the North from the earliest days of European settlement to only shortly before the Civil War. The book is published by Globe Pequot press.
