A Traditional Christmas in Stowe

December 6 - December 8, 2019

Welcome the holiday season in Stowe, Vermont with tree lightings, a lantern parade, wagon rides, Santa and carolers. Experience candy cane pulling and wreath making, try gingerbread and cookie decorating, and enjoy performances, ice skating and more.

Experience a classic Christmas celebration in Stowe. This family-friendly event is a favorite among residents and visitors.

Schedule of Events

Friday, December 6, 2019

  • 3:30 p.m.: Stowe Free Library reading with Vermont author, Sarah Dillard
    • Learn more about how Sarah (author of Extraordinary Warren, Mouse Scouts, and First Day at Zoo School) writes and illustrates and join us for an interactive drawing session.
  • 4:30 p.m.: Children’s Lantern Parade and Tree Lighting with Stowe Parks and Recreation.
    • The parade will start at Stowe Elementary School, caroling along the way. Warm-Up after the parade with cider and donuts at the Gale Recreation Center.
  • 5 – 7 p.m.: Helen Day Art Center Open Reception of Members’ Art Show and Festival of Trees and Lights
  • 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.: Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum opening reception of “Origins ~ three Exhibits on Skiing and Riding in Vermont”*
  • 7 p.m.: Stowe High School presents the musical Big Fish*

Saturday, December 7, 2019

  • 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Christmas Bazaar at the Stowe Community Church
  • 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.:
    • Gingerbread House Decorating at Cork Wine Bar & Market*
    • Santa Stroll through the Village. Visit local participating businesses for complimentary treats and discounts.*
    • Holiday treats at Von Bargen’s Jewelry made by Patti Cakes.
  • 11 a.m.: Candy Cane twisting and hot chocolate samples at Laughing Moon Chocolates*
  • 12 – 3 p.m.:
    • Hay rides through the Stowe Village and Rock Around the Christmas Tree on the Village Green with The Blue Diamonds and The Skeleton Keys
    • Photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus at Stowe Mercantile and holiday cookie decorating at Café on Main
    • “Welcome to Winter” by Stowe Parks and Recreation and the Gale Recreation Center
  • 2 p.m.: Candy Cane twisting and hot chocolate samples at Laughing Moon Chocolates*
  • 7 p.m.: Stowe High School presents the musical Big Fish*

Sunday, December 8, 2019

  • 11 a.m.: Candy Cane twisting and hot chocolate samples at Laughing Moon Chocolates*
  • 11:30 a.m.: Meet and greet with Frozen 2 film characters prior to the 12:30 p.m. showing of Frozen 2 at Stowe Cinema
  • 2 p.m. Stowe High School presents the musical Big Fish*
