“As a teacher,” says Tucker, “I’ve spent years helping children understand and appreciate the diversity that exists within their communities. I hope I Feel Like Me helps even just one child find their joy and sense of self through personal style.”

 

Tucker’s debut book explores the importance of identity and expression through clothing, whether it’s emotional, cultural, religious, gender-affirming, or simply what one person likes. She warmly encourages the celebration of individuality and reminds readers that there are infinite ways to look, play, and be.

 

Illustrations are done by Tanya Farys, from Odesa, Ukraine. The collaboration is even more personal because, throughout the making of the book, Tucker discovered that much of her own ancestry traces back to Odessa.

 

About the Author:

 

Lauren Tucker is a New Jersey educator with twenty years of experience working with elementary-aged children. She holds a master’s degree in reading and literacy and currently works as an academic support teacher in Montgomery Township, New Jersey. Her professional work has centered on literacy, child development, inclusive learning environments, and helping children build confidence in who they are.

 

Tucker lives in Hopewell Valley, New Jersey, with her family. I Feel Like Me is her debut children’s book.
