“Vermont Light: An exhibit of new photographs by JuanCarlos Gonzalez"
August 5 - October 11, 2026
Stowe Fine Art Gallery
64 S. Main St., Stowe, VT

Vermont Light is a photographic journey through the landscapes that have shaped the artist since making Vermont his home. Mr. Gonzalez has been drawn to the state’s distinct seasons, working farms, weathered barns, and ever-changing light. He has traveled Vermont’s back roads and rural communities, documenting quiet moments that reveal the beauty, resilience, and character of the land.

Presented in both color and black-and-white, these photographs span summer fields, autumn hillsides, winter snows, and the timeless structures that anchor the rural landscape. More than a collection of scenic images, Vermont Light is a reflection on place, belonging, and the connection between people and the land they steward. Through light, season, and observation, the exhibition invites viewers to experience Vermont as both a physical landscape and a living story.

About the Artist
JuanCarlos Gonzalez is a Puerto Rican photojournalist and visual storyteller based in Vermont. In 2025, he was selected for Leica’s 100 Photographers, thus becoming the first Puerto Rican to present a solo exhibition at Leica Gallery, Boston. In 2023, he launched Vermont Female Farmers, a signature portrait and documentary series highlighting women shaping the future of agriculture in the Green Mountain State. The project has been exhibited widely, including solo presentations at the Fleming Museum of Art, Bennington Museum, Billings Farm & Museum, the Vermont State House, and Leica Gallery Boston. He is currently developing Puerto Rico Female Farmers, an ongoing documentary project expanding this work across the island, where he has already documented dozens of farmers and their stories around climate change, land stewardship, and food sovereignty.

Mr. Gonzalez's work is permanently housed in the Library of Congress. His work has been featured in leading publications including Leica Fotografie International (LFI), Vogue Italia, The Boston Globe, and National Geographic.  Mr. Gonzalez previously served as Director of Arts Programming at IBA Boston, where he led community-driven cultural initiatives for six years at one of New England’s largest Latinx nonprofit organizations.
