The Bryan Fine Art Gallery is thrilled to welcome the work of artist Cynthia Rosen to the Gallery from September 3 – November 2.

Philadelphia-born artist Cynthia Rosen is fascinated with color and shape. She often works on two canvases at once, and almost always uses signature dabs of orange in her works. She foregoes a traditional brush in favor of a “spatcher”, which looks like a brush, but instead of bristles, it has a flexible blade, designed specifically for “spatching” paint onto a canvas. She paints large, complicated scenes, because, “I'm not big on simplification. I want a symphony. I want highs and lows. I want loud. I want quiet. And I want a big story. So, simplification is not my thing.” Cynthia’s work blurs the lines between realism and abstraction, creating scenes that are totally unique, with absorptive qualities for a viewer.

This exhibit will consist of brand new works. She will be experimenting with her color palette, and using a combination of acrylic paint and mixed media. As she experiments with her painting process and palette, the new works will reflect these changes. The one constant: Cynthia continues to paint landscapes en plein air.

Cynthia’s path to painting is storied. As a young artist, she attended the Museum School in Boston while selling mixed medium works through galleries in New York and Philadelphia. She launched a non-profit organization that set up art programs in halfway houses, jails and alternative schools, teaching some of the programs herself. She ultimately moved to Vermont to raise her family, turning her focus to art education, while sporadically making art. Some forty years later, she began painting again, en plein air. Cynthia travels to paint, teaches workshops, participates in plein air events, and shows her work in numerous galleries in New England and New York. She has received numerous commissions and has received copious recognitions for her work.
