Washington State Wines

Join Trapp Family Lodge in their Wine Cellar for a Washington State Wines tasting on Saturday, February 22, 2020.

Most of the wine grape growing areas in Washington are desert regions. Desert is officially defined as any area that receives less than 9 inches of rain a year. What this means is that Washington State Vintners have become experts at irrigation both above and underground. Turns out deserts are great places to grow vines. Vines do not produce quality wines in damp fertile soil, also they like sunshine and warmth during the day and coolness at night. There’s a trifecta for desert wines right there. Also, Washington has long played second fiddle to California, so maybe they try harder.

Price is $20. Please call or see the front desk to place reservations at (802) 253-5742. Doors open at 4 p.m. They suggest you arrive no later than 5 p.m. to avoid feeling rushed. People come and go during the tasting which is an informal walk around format. The event ends at 6 p.m.

Tasting Includes:

  • 14 Hands Chardonnay, Columbia Valley 2016
  • Chateau Ste. Michelle Horse Heaven Sauvignon Blanc 2016
  • Columbia Crest Grand Estates Merlot, Columbia Valley 2015
  • Airfield Dauntless Red Blend, Yakima Valley 2015
