Stowe Winter Carnival

The 46th Stowe Winter Carnival celebrates the 2020 winter season, as we highlight many reasons why people visit our winter wonderland of Stowe! Stowe shines with over 20 major activities for both young and old, from zany sports events,  the Ice Carving Competitions, ski movies, Kids Carnival Kaos and the infamous Snowgolf and Snowvolleyball tournaments.

Tour the town, while watching Professional Ice Carvers create elegant and masterful Ice carvings throughout the village on Demonstration Day and experience the 20th Annual NICA sanctioned Ice Carving Competition. Visitors and locals alike participate in such zany events such as our infamous Snowvolleyball Tournament, Snowgolf Competition and Kids Carnival Chaos. Don’t miss this event, ranked #2 by Country Living as one of the “15 Best Winter Festivals All Across the U.S.

2020 Stowe Winter Carnival Schedule

Thursday, January 23 – Opening Night:

  • 5 – 7 p.m. | Sip N’ Chip Ice Carving Class and Competition | The Alchemist Brewery
    • This is a public amateur ice class and competition where hand tools and professional instruction will be provided. This is an outdoor event, dress appropriately! Teams can be up to 4 people and individuals are welcome. It is $100 per space with only 20  spaces available. Call (802) 253-8897 to register.
  • 7 – 9 p.m. | Retro Ski and Snowboard Home Movie Night | Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum
    • An evening of amateur vintage winter sports films and local Stowe history.

Friday, January 24:

  • 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. | Town-wide Ice Carving Demo Day & Ice Carving Stroll | Town of Stowe
    • View the carving schedule here
    • Professional Ice Carvers carve their master-pieces in front of local business and hotel sponsors on Main Street, Mountain Road and surrounding Stowe area. Marvel at the ice carvings while enjoying food and drink specials at local restaurants and boutique shopping!
    • Ice Carving Demonstrations: 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. on Main Street and 1 – 6 p.m. on Mountain Road
  • 7 p.m. | Stowe Winter Carnival’s 20th Annual Ice Carvers Welcoming Party and Registration | Sunset Grille & Tap Room
    • Meet and greet the Professional Ice Carvers after Friday’s Ice Carving Demonstration Day!
  • 9 p.m. | Live Music and Dance Parties | Rusty Nail Stage
    • Featuring “Elton John,” also known as Josh Panda and Madman across the Mountain
Saturday, January 25:
  • 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. | 20th Annual Ice Carving Competition Day | The Alchemist Brewery
    • Don’t miss these exciting Professional Ice Carving Competitions! The public votes for the winners.
      • 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Professional IC Competition
      • 11 a.m. -1 p.m. Amateur Competition
      • 3 p.m. Pro Elimination Speed Carving Competition
  • 8 p.m. | 20th Anniversary Ice Carving Awards Party | Rimrocks Tavern
    • Congratulate and party with Professional Ice Carvers from around the world!
  • 1 – 3 p.m. Kids Carnival Chaos | Stowe Elementary School Gym
    • Beat the winter blues with Kids Carnival Chaos! Games, Costume characters, music, bounce houses, face painting, and more! Bring all your friends and family for this winter time fun! Game and concession fees will apply.
  • 9 p.m. | Ice Carvers Meltdown Party | The Matterhorn
    • Rock out to the GratefulDead Music, performed by great musicians.

Sunday, January 26:

  • 9:30 a.m. Stowe Winter Carnival Snowvolleyball Tournament | Sunset Grille & Tap Room
    • Bring your own male/female six person team, as snow sets the stage to dig, set and spike on the Bud LightSunset Court!
  • 10 a.m. | Stowe Winter Carnival Snowgolf Tournament | Stowe Country Club
    • Registration is at Rimrocks Tavern at 10 a.m., followed by 11 holes of wacky on snowgolf at Stowe Country Club. There will be a Bud Light Snow Golf Awards Party at Rimrocks Tavern at 3 p.m. following the tournament.
